The Light Program offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP) for co-occurring disorders. This day program is for teens and children ages 12-18 who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. Help for Teens Struggling with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Disorders
Teens who abuse substances may be living with a mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. This is known as a dual diagnosis since the substance use disorder and mental health condition are present at the same time. You may also hear the conditions referred to as co-occurring disorders.
Substance abuse and mental health symptoms are closely connected. Teens may use substances to cope, but at the same time, substance use may worsen symptoms. This is why treatment should address both conditions. At The Light Program, we use a variety of treatment methods to address your teen’s substance use and any underlying mental health problems.
Partial Hospitalization Program Features
Our clinicians use a variety of therapeutic techniques to engage adolescents, such as art and music therapy and trauma-sensitive yoga. This helps your child find something that interests them each day. When teens fully engage with treatment, they have better outcomes.
Here are some of the unique features of our mental health day program:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and experiential techniques
- Holistic treatments conducted by a certified therapist and reputable licensed outside agencies, including art therapy, music therapy, trauma-sensitive yoga, and more
- Schooling from LearnWell so there is no gap in school days
- Psychiatric services
- Weekly education group for parents of adolescents enrolled in the program
- Wholesome, healthy food for adolescents in the program at no additional cost
- Transportation available, if needed, at no additional cost
How Long Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
Partial hospitalization is a day program that usually lasts for several hours each day during the week. Our PHP runs Monday through Friday, for six hours each day. Most individuals who enter the program participate in 10-15 treatment days.
*Paoli’s program serves clients with co-occurring disorders while Phoenixville serves clients with mental health diagnoses specifically.
Is PHP Right for My Child?
Partial hospitalization is usually recommended for teens who have tried lower levels of care, such as intensive outpatient or outpatient counseling, but have not seen significant improvement in symptoms. It also serves as a next step for teens who have completed inpatient or residential treatment.
