The Light Program provides outpatient counseling for children and teens ages 9-18; younger children may be accommodated in some cases. We incorporate both individual counseling sessions and group therapy in our program.
Sessions can cover a wide range of topics, including self-esteem, depression, ADHD, and behavioral problems. In order to match your son or daughter with the most appropriate counselor for their needs, our team takes time to understand your child’s situation and their goals.

Reasons for Teen Therapy
Adolescence is naturally a challenging time, but if your teen is struggling to manage daily responsibilities or is displaying behavioral problems, guidance from a counselor could help them cope with life’s changes and pressures.
Mental health counseling is often beneficial for teens or children who are experiencing the following:
- Depressed mood, anxiety, or other mental health symptoms
- A diagnosed mental health condition such as depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, or ADD/ADHD
- Behavioral issues (skipping class, suspension from school, etc.)
- Overwhelming stress
- Low self-esteem
- Grief over a death or loss
Treatment Methods and Outcomes
Our therapists are trained in a variety of techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. We help your son or daughter identify challenges and develop healthy coping skills.
Treatment goals are shaped by each person’s unique situation and reasons for attending therapy. The goal could be to reduce mental health symptoms, improve relationships, or increase self-esteem. Your child’s treatment plan is based on his or her unique needs.
The Light Program also recognizes the importance of family involvement. We incorporate family-based programming into our treatment, including psychoeducation for parents and family counseling sessions.
Individual Counseling vs. Group Therapy
While private, one-on-one sessions allow for more personalized attention, there are many benefits to group sessions. Your child will have a chance to connect with other teens who are navigating similar challenges in life. They will receive support from peers and guidance from a professional. Adolescents participating in group therapy are placed in the most relevant and age-appropriate group for their needs.
